Watch the lift hold a vehicle. With a car on the arms, look for any pad that squirms, any adapter that rocks, any arm that settles or rotates. Movement under load that shouldn't be there points straight to a worn pad, a bent adapter, a wallowed pin hole, or a loose retainer.
