The lock release cable on a 2-post lift is the small cable that runs from the release handle on the pump-side column, up and over the overhead beam (through slide blocks or pulleys), and back down the far column to pull that far column's lock pawl. Pull the handle, both pawls release, and the lift can come down. When this cable frays, breaks, or stretches so much that pulling the handle no longer releases the far pawl, the lift will only lower on one side and hang up on the locks on the other side.

The serial dates the lift to a production run, and that is what decides which revision fits.
