Recovery, deep vacuum, and automatic recharge

Everything on the AC1234-4 runs as a programmed cycle. Recovery is fast enough that R-1234yf jobs don't take longer than R-134a jobs on the same shop clock, and the onboard vacuum pump pulls the system down deep enough to drive residual moisture out. That matters more on R-1234yf systems because the refrigerant itself is more sensitive to moisture and the OEM POE oils in these systems are hygroscopic.

Purity check and refrigerant identification

The RobinAir AC1234-4 includes internal purity checks required by J2843 so the machine will refuse to recover a badly contaminated charge into its tank. That said, an external refrigerant identifier is still worth having on the cart — the on-machine check is a safety net, not a substitute for identifying the refrigerant before you hook up. Contaminating an R-1234yf tank is materially more expensive than contaminating R-134a, both because the refrigerant costs more and because the tank capacity is smaller.

Vehicle charge data

The AC1234-4 includes an onboard vehicle-specific charge database, but as with any RobinAir the underhood label is authoritative. R-1234yf OEMs have been tighter about charge weight tolerance than the R-134a era, and being off by a fraction of an ounce can throw a warm-air customer complaint that brings the vehicle back.
