Choosing an A/C recovery machine

An A/C machine recovers, recycles, evacuates, and recharges refrigerant so you can service vehicle air conditioning accurately and legally. The right unit depends mostly on which refrigerant your vehicles use and how much you automate.

R134a vs. R1234yf

Vehicles built before roughly 2015 mostly use R134a (RobinAir 34788NI, Mahle ACX2180). Newer vehicles use R1234yf (RobinAir AC1234-4, Mahle ACX2250). Shops servicing both should run one machine per refrigerant, or choose hybrid-ready models built for EV/hybrid compressor oils.

Automatic machines run the full recover-vacuum-recharge cycle hands-free and log refrigerant amounts; manual units cost less but need operator steps. Touchscreen models add guided service and database lookups.
